Removing and installing alternator - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. TDI engine (generation II) on Audi: 17 steps.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017); platform code 83
Don't miss
- Disregard (item 1).
- Leave coolant hose (3) connected.
- Stiff alternator mount bushes must be freed; otherwise the clamping force of the bush will not be adequate even when the bolts are tightened to the correct torque.
📋 Procedure
- With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery .
- Detach poly V-belt from alternator pulley 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.
- Release hose clips (arrows) and detach air hose. [Note: Disregard (item 1).]
- Remove bolts (1, 2). [Note: Leave coolant hose (3) connected.]
- Unscrew terminal 30/B+ (item 1).
- Unplug electrical connector (2).
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Move coolant pipe (top left) to side and detach alternator (1).
- Unplug electrical connector (2).
- Remove nut (1) and move bracket to side with electrical connector.
- Apply a 1/2 inch socket (19 mm) (item 1) at sliding bush.
- Screw bolt (M8x45) (item 2) into sliding bush. This will pull sliding bush out of alternator.
- Pull coolant pipe to one side and detach alternator. [Note: Hose connections and air pipes/hoses must be free from oil and grease before fitting.Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) Electronic parts catalogue. To ensure that the air hoses can be properly secured at their connections, spray rust remover onto the worm threads of used hose clips before installing.]
- To facilitate positioning of alternator, drive back bushes for securing bolts slightly. [Note: Stiff alternator mount bushes must be freed; otherwise the clamping force of the bush will not be adequate even when the bolts are tightened to the correct torque.]
- Install poly V-belt 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.
- Connect battery. Steps required .
- Start engine and check that belt runs properly.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
