Removing and installing airbag unit on front passenger side, Transporter to 2010 — AUDI
Removing and installing airbag unit on front passenger side, Transporter to 2010 on Audi: 14 steps, 1 torque figure.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Transporter T5 (7H), VW Transporter T5 (7J), VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)
Don't miss
- Check whether an earth cable is attached to the front passenger airbag housing:
- Ensure that the additional earth cable is fitted and secure on the factory-fitted stud (1).The factory-fitted safety threaded fitting may not be loosened.
- If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again .
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft) | Secure one end of earth cable (2) to stud (1) and, using additional nut (4), to right… |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Safety regulations must be observed when working with pyrotechnic components.Observe the regulations relating to the storage, transportation and disposal of airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) .Note assignment of airbag unit to dash panel Electronic Parts Catalogue. — Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Connecting and disconnecting battery.
- Remove right-hand dash panel side cover .
- Remove right footwell cover .
- Remove right dash panel trim .

- Remove fresh air blower V2Heating, ventilation, air conditioner80Removing fresh air blower -V2-.
- ⚠ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the electrical connector), the person handling them must "“electrically discharge”" himself/herself. To do this e.g. briefly touch the door striker plate. — Separate connector (1) from front passenger airbag.
- Remove 2 securing bolts (3).
- Slide front passenger airbag (2) approx. 5 mm in direction of normal travel, lower slightly and take out of dash panel downwards. [Note: Check whether an earth cable is attached to the front passenger airbag housing:] [Note: The earth cable is not included in the scope of delivery of the front passenger airbag unit.To fit the earth wire, use Set of individual wires000 979 137.If needed, extend the earth wire with the appropriate materials from wiring harness repair setVAS 1978 or Wiring harness repair setVAS 1978A.]
- ⚠ If a front passenger airbag is renewed, an additional earth cable may have to be fitted to the vehicle.Safety regulations must be observed when working with pyrotechnic components.Observe the regulations relating to the storage, transportation and disposal of airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) .Note assignment of airbag unit to dash panel Electronic Parts Catalogue. — Fold floor covering in right A-pillar footwell to side when routing additional earth cable.
- Secure one end of earth cable (2) to stud (1) and, using additional nut (4), to right retaining bracket of front passenger airbag (specified torque: 6 Nm). [Note: Ensure that the additional earth cable is fitted and secure on the factory-fitted stud (1).The factory-fitted safety threaded fitting may not be loosened.] — 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft)
- Route the earth cable (2) properly up to the right side of the front passenger footwell.
- Connect the other end of the earth cable to the earth bolt (5).
- ⚠ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when connecting battery. — Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Connecting and disconnecting battery. [Note: If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again .]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
