Fits: VW Transporter T5 (7H), VW Transporter T5 (7J), VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)
Don't miss
- Check whether an earth cable is attached to the front passenger airbag housing:
- Ensure that the additional earth cable is fitted and secure on the factory-fitted stud (1).The factory-fitted safety threaded fitting may not be loosened.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Safety regulations must be observed when working with pyrotechnic components.Observe the regulations relating to the storage, transportation and disposal of airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) .Note assignment of airbag unit to dash panel Electronic Parts Catalogue. — Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Connecting and disconnecting battery.
- Remove right dash panel side trim .
- Remove bottle holder .
- Remove glove compartment .
- Remove right middle knee padding .
- Remove right dash panel trim .
- ⚠ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the electrical connector), the person handling them must "“electrically discharge”" himself/herself. To do this e.g. briefly touch the door striker plate. — Disconnect connector on front passenger airbag (1).
- To do this, unscrew securing bolts (2) for front passenger airbag.
- Slide front passenger airbag approx. 5 mm forwards, lower slightly and pull it out off the dash panel. [Note: Check whether an earth cable is attached to the front passenger airbag housing:] [Note: The earth cable is not included in the scope of delivery of the front passenger airbag unit.To fit the earth wire, use Set of individual wires000 979 137.If needed, extend the earth wire with the appropriate materials from wiring harness repair setVAS 1978 or Wiring harness repair setVAS 1978A.]
- ⚠ If a front passenger airbag is renewed, an additional earth cable may have to be fitted to the vehicle.Safety regulations must be observed when working with pyrotechnic components.Observe the regulations relating to the storage, transportation and disposal of airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) .Note assignment of airbag unit to dash panel Electronic Parts Catalogue. — Fold floor covering in right A-pillar footwell to side when routing additional earth cable.
- Secure end of earth cable (2) to stud (1) on right retaining bracket of front passenger airbag using an additional hexagon nut (4). [Note: Ensure that the additional earth cable is fitted and secure on the factory-fitted stud (1).The factory-fitted safety threaded fitting may not be loosened.]
- Route the earth cable (2) properly up to the right side of the front passenger footwell.
- Connect the other end of the earth cable to the earth bolt (5).
- ⚠ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when connecting battery. — Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Connecting and disconnecting battery.
- Finally, read and clear event memory of airbag control unit since faults may be stored as a result of disconnecting electrical connectors .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
