Removing and installing additional loudspeaker for telematics R91 — AUDI

Removing and installing additional loudspeaker for telematics R91 on Audi: 6 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm.

The additional loudspeaker for telematics R91 on the A8 D3 (4E) sits in the lower B-pillar trim on the passenger's side, so the work is mostly trim removal. All electrical consumers are switched off and the key removed, the bottom B-pillar trim is released, its connectors unplugged and the trim taken out. The speaker is held in the trim by a ring on its outer face: turn the ring in the direction shown to free it and the speaker comes out towards the front. Refitting is the reverse. The things that decide a tidy result are not breaking the trim clips during removal and making sure every connector on the trim is plugged back in before it is clipped home, since a missed plug only shows up as a silent emergency call speaker.

🧭 Before you start

Don't miss

  • Switch off all electrical equipment and remove the ignition key before unplugging anything.
  • Unplug all connectors before pulling the B-pillar trim fully away.
  • Turn the retaining ring in the marked direction only; it is the sole fixing.
  • Test the telematics speaker function before the trim is fully clipped home.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
