Removing air cleaner housing - vehicles with 4-cyl. TDI engine — AUDI
Removing air cleaner housing - vehicles with 4-cyl. TDI engine on Audi: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Getting the air cleaner housing out of the Audi A6 C6 2004–2011 (4F) with a four-cylinder TDI is a short strip that often precedes bigger work at the front of the engine. The engine cover comes off, the air ducts are unbolted and removed, and the top section is freed at its two retaining clips. Then the air mass meter G70 connector is unplugged, the intake hose released at its clip, the vacuum hose detached and the vacuum unit with air control flap taken off the housing. The bottom section lifts off its retaining pin last. Nothing here is difficult; what matters is unplugging the air mass meter carefully and remembering the vacuum hose and flap unit on the way back.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the engine cover and air ducts, release the clips and lift off the upper section. Unplug G70, free the intake hose and vacuum hose, and remove the vacuum unit with air control flap. Disengage the lower section from its retaining pin and remove it; refit in reverse.
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
Don't miss
- Unplug the air mass meter G70 connector before pulling the housing.
- Refit the vacuum hose and vacuum unit; the air control flap will not work without them.
- Make sure the lower section seats back on its retaining pin.
- Check the intake hose clip is fully tight to avoid unmetered air.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
