📋 Procedure

  1. Set adjustment rings of universal measuring toolVW 385/1 to the following values:
  2. Assemble universal measuring toolVW 385/1 as illustrated:
  3. Insert universal measuring toolVW 385/1 with centring discVW 385/4 facing towards gearbox housing.
  4. Fit cover for final drive with O-ring installed and tighten four bolts to 24 Nm. — 24 Nm (18 lb-ft)

  1. Position straightedgeT 40100 onto cleaned joint surface of gearbox housing.
  2. Measure depth between straightedge and highest point on universal measuring toolVW 385/1 using digital depth gauge (1) (e.g. depth gauge, digital 300 mmVAS 6594).
  3. Subtract height of straightedgeT 40100 from this measurement and add half the ∅ of universal measuring toolVW 385/1 to this calculation. This value is 16 mm.
  4. Install input shaft, hollow shaft with pressed-on roller bearings and bearing mounting (1).
  5. Position straightedgeT 40100 onto cleaned joint surface of gearbox housing.
  6. Measure depth between roller bearing inner race and straightedge using digital depth gauge (2) (e.g. digital depth gauge VAS 6087).
  7. Add the height of straightedgeT 40100 to this measurement. [Note: Select correct shims from Electronic parts catalogue.]
  8. The shim thickness "„S"6“ in this example is 4.30 mm.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
