Filling hydraulic system: Audi A6 C5
Step-by-step filling hydraulic system for the Audi A6 C5: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the 4B platform code listed below with 6-speed manual gearbox 01E and four-wheel drive, a hydraulic system needs filling and settling, and this short procedure covers it. The filler cap with dipstick is unscrewed, hydraulic fluid G 002 000 is added to the MAX mark and the cap is screwed back on hand-tight. The rest is a loop: run the basic setting through self-diagnosis, recheck the level and top up so it sits between MIN and MAX, then run the basic setting again. Air works its way out with each pass, so the level drops and has to be chased more than once. The job is finished only when the level holds between the marks after a basic setting, not after the first fill.
🧭 Before you start
Unscrew the dipstick cap, fill with the specified hydraulic fluid to MAX and refit the cap hand-tight. Run the basic setting, check and top up to between MIN and MAX, then repeat the basic setting. Keep alternating top-up and basic setting until the level stays between the marks, then do a final level check.
Fits: Audi A6 C5 (4B)
- Opens: power steering fluid
Don't miss
- Use hydraulic fluid G 002 000 only.
- Tighten the filler cap with dipstick hand-tight, no tools.
- Repeat the basic setting until the level stays between MIN and MAX afterwards.
- Check the level after every basic setting, not just at the end.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
