📋 Procedure

ℹ️ Torque figures below come verbatim from workshop data — always cross-check against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening.

Since approx. 09.94 (as of engine no. ABK 245 263) "light valve gear" has been fitted instead of "old valve gear".

Main distinguishing features of "light valve gear":

Discontinuation of camshaft bearing
Discontinuation of inner valve spring
Discontinuation of lower valve plate
Smaller valve stem diameter
Smaller ID of valve guides

Notes:

Cylinder heads with cracks between valve seats or between one valve seat ring and spark plug thread can be re-used without shortening service life if cracks are only minor (max. 0.3 mm wide) or if only the first 4 turns of the spark plug thread are cracked.
Engine is not to be started for approx. 30 minutes after installing camshaft, so as to allow hydraulic valve lifters to settle (valves would otherwise strike piston).
After working on valve gear, carefully crank engine through at least 2 revolutions to ensure that no valves make contact on starting.
Always replace gaskets and oil seals.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
