... at the same time, dot on front of camshaft sprocket must coincide with arrow at rear toothed belt guard. If necessary, give crankshaft 1 further turn.
Screw out both upper bolts of tensioner (elongated holes) by 1 turn.
Slacken off lower bolt until tensioner can be moved.
Detach toothed belt from camshaft sprocket.
Installing (adjusting valve timing)
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
Notes:
When turning camshaft, none of the crankshaft cylinders should be at TDC, as this could result in valve/piston crown damage.
Toothed belt tension is to be adjusted when engine is cold.
Align dot at camshaft sprocket with arrow at toothed belt guard.
Check again to establish whether crankshaft is at no. 1 cylinder TDC.

Position toothed belt on tensioning roller, coolant pump and camshaft sprocket.
Tension toothed belt; to do so, apply 25 Nm at hexagon and turn tensioner clockwise, hold in position and tighten bolts -arrows- to 10 Nm.
Give crankshaft two turns in direction of engine rotation and check whether camshaft and crankshaft marks coincide with their reference points.
Check tension of toothed belt using VW 210.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
