Detaching pulley from air conditioner compressor/re-attaching ("“Denso”" make, version "“2”") on Audi: 15 steps, 2 torque figures.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

15 steps 2 torque figures

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

Don't miss

  • Replace the circlip (A).Clean the air conditioner compressor flange before attaching the pulley. On fitting the circlip (A), take care not to bend it open more than necessary.
  • Ensure correct insertion of the circlip (A). The bevelled side (C) faces away from the air conditioner compressor (flat side faces compressor).

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove the plastic disc (B) from the pulley (A) (if fitted).
  2. Use a small screwdriver or pointed-nose pliers, for example, to carefully remove the circlip (A) (possibly with vulcanised rubber disc), taking particular care not to damage the pulley.
  3. Hold the air conditioner compressor drive shaft (B) in position with a commercially available Allen key or a socket wrench from the damper set T10001 (depending on air conditioner compressor version) and turn the drive plate (C) with the pulley (D) in the direction of arrow (E) (tightening torque 35 Nm). — 35 Nm (26 lb-ft)
  4. Detach the drive plate (C).
  5. Remove the circlip (A).

  1. Detach the pulley (B). [Note: Replace the circlip (A).Clean the air conditioner compressor flange before attaching the pulley. On fitting the circlip (A), take care not to bend it open more than necessary.]
  2. Fit the pulley (B).
  3. Ensure correct insertion of the circlip (A). The bevelled side (C) faces away from the air conditioner compressor (flat side faces compressor).
  4. Insert the rubber elements (D) in the pulley (B) as shown.
  5. For fitting the drive plate, moisten the rubber elements (D) slightly with tyre assembly paste or soap solution for example to provide lubrication.
  6. Insert the drive plate (C) in the rubber elements (D) (refer to illustration A87-0633) until it makes contact with the shaft of the air conditioner compressor (B).
  7. Screw the drive plate (C) onto the compressor shaft (B) by turning it in the direction of arrow (F).
  8. Tighten the drive plate (C) (by way of the pulley (D)) to 35 Nm by turning in direction of arrow (F) with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap). Hold the compressor shaft (B) in position with a commercially available Allen key or a socket wrench from the damper set T10001. — 35 Nm (26 lb-ft)
  9. Fit the circlip (A) (with rubber disc).
  10. Clean the drive plate of the pulley (A) and affix the plastic disc (B) to the centre of the drive plate (air conditioner compressors with no rubber disc at circlip only).

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
