📋 Procedure

Connect
test box
V.A.G 1598/18
to
electronic manual gearbox control unit
J514
Using
test box
V.A.G 1598/18
the wiring can be checked according to current flow diagram.
Switch off ignition.
Lift up floor mat in left side footwell.
Turn the lock mechanisms
1
anticlockwise and remove the cover plate.
Release multiple connector
arrow 1
and unplug from the control unit
arrow 2
.
Connect
test box
V.A.G 1598/18
to the multiple connector
arrow 1
and lock
arrow 2
.
Caution
To prevent damage to the electronic components, the appropriate measuring range must be selected before connecting the diagnosis leads and observe the test requirements.
Carry out all measures listed in the column
“Measures if readout does not match specification”
.
Only carry out test steps recommended in the fault table (targeted approach).
After the electrical test:
Connect multiple connector to the pins of the
electronic manual gearbox control unit
J514
arrow 1
and then lock
arrow 2
.
When installing, ensure that the guides are positioned on the pins of the control unit.
Note
For testing, use the
portable multimeter
V.A.G 1526 B
with auxiliary wires from
V.A.G 1594 C
or the
vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system
VAS 5051 A
with
diagnosis leads
VAS 5051 A/7
.
The socket designations of the
test box
V.A.G 1598/18
are identical to the contact designations of the
electronic manual gearbox control unit
J514
in the current flow diagram.
Damage may be caused to the system by testing incorrectly. Apart from the connectors listed in the test table, no other bridges may be connected.
The specified values are valid for an ambient temperature from 0°... 40° C.
If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, determine fault on the basis of the current flow diagram.
If the measured values deviate only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the testers and diagnosis leads and repeat test.
Before replacing components, their lines and connectors must be tested. Especially with specified values under 10 Ω the resistance measurement at the component should be repeated.
Check 68-part multiple connector of

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
