Camshaft adjustment 1
Indicated on display:
Upon actuation of camshaft timing control, the valve should give a clearly audible click.
If the valve does not click, then switch the ignition off.
Pull the connector off solenoid valve -N205.
Measure resistance between contacts on valve using hand held multimeter V.A.G 1526.
Specification: 12 ... 16 ω.
If the value is not as specified, fit a new valve.
Check power supply to valve for camshaft timing control -N205
Pull the connector off solenoid valve -N205.
Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 between engine earth and contact 1 (positive) on connector using cables from adapter set V.A.G 1594.
Operate the starter for a few seconds. Engine may start.
The diode test lamp should light up.
If the diode test lamp does not light up, carry out the following tests:
Check the fuse for the valve of the camshaft timing control.
Check the wiring from contact 1 of the camshaft timing control to fuse for open circuit.

Camshaft adjustment 1
Indicated on display:
The diode test lamp should flash on and off upon actuation of camshaft adjustment.
If the diode test lamp does not flash or lights up continuously, connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit => Page
24-6
.
If the diode test lamp lights up continuously, check the line connection between contact 2 of the connector to contact 55 of the test box for short-circuit to earth.
=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder
If the diode test lamp does not flash, check the line connection between contact 2 of the connector to contact 55 of the test box for open-circuit or short-circuit to positive.
=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder
Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
If no open circuits or short circuits are found, fit a new engine control unit =>page
24-7
.
If none of the tests already performed indicate any fault, then renew the mechanical camshaft adjuster.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
