Checking delivery rate of fuel pumps - vehicles with 8-cylinder engine — AUDI

Checking delivery rate of fuel pumps - vehicles with 8-cylinder engine on Audi: 28 steps, engines ASN, AUK, BBJ, BDX.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

28 steps 15 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A8 D3 (4E, 2002–2010)

  • Opens: fuel
  • Special tools named: V.A.G 1348, V.A.G 1348/3, V.A.G 1318/12
  • Renewed: relevant fuel delivery unit

Don't miss

  • Disregard (item 1).
  • Connect contact (1) (positive) of fuel delivery unit (left-side) and fuel delivery unit (right-side) to battery "“+”" via an improvised test lead. For safety reasons an in-line fuse (A) (10 A) must be connected into the lead.
  • Open cut-off valve on pressure tester. Lever must point in direction of flow.
  • From this point on do not move position of cut-off valve.
  • Voltage at fuel pump with engine stationary and pump running is approx. 2 volts less than battery voltage.

📋 Procedure

  1. Observe test conditions .
  2. ⚠ Observe safety precautions . — Remove luggage compartment side trim cover (right-side) (arrows).
  3. Remove cover (2) over battery. [Note: Disregard (item 1).]
  4. Remove luggage compartment floor covering.
  5. Detach cover for flange (left-side) (arrows).

  1. Unplug electrical connector (2) on flange (left-side). [Note: Disregard (item 1).]
  2. Unscrew cover for flange (right-side) (arrows).
  3. Unplug electrical connector (2) on flange (right-side). [Note: Disregard (item 1).]
  4. Connect remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A for V.A.G 1348 with adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-3 to contact (4) (earth) of fuel delivery unit (left-side) and fuel delivery unit (right-side) using test leads from auxiliary measuring setV.A.G 1594C.
  5. Move switch of remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A for V.A.G 1348 to front of engine compartment.
  6. Connect crocodile clip to earth point in engine compartment.
  7. Connect contact (1) (positive) of fuel delivery unit (left-side) and fuel delivery unit (right-side) to battery "“+”" via an improvised test lead. For safety reasons an in-line fuse (A) (10 A) must be connected into the lead.
  8. Remove filler cap from fuel filler neck.
  9. Pull off engine cover panel (rear) (arrows).
  10. ⚠ The fuel system is pressurised. Before opening the system place a clean cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection. — Disconnect fuel supply line (arrow) at connecting piece.
  11. ⚠ Rules for cleanliness when working on the injection system . — Disconnect fuel line (arrow).
  12. Connect K-Jetronic pressure testerV.A.G 1318 with adaptersV.A.G 1318/11 and V.A.G 1318/12 to fuel line.
  13. Fit auxiliary hose (arrow) onto pressure tester and hold it in a measuring container.
  14. Open cut-off valve on pressure tester. Lever must point in direction of flow.
  15. Build up pressure in fuel system by pressing the remote control button and slowly closing the cut-off valve on the pressure tester.
  16. From this point on do not move position of cut-off valve.
  17. Empty the measuring container.
  18. Press remote control button for 15 seconds.
  19. Compare amount of fuel delivered with minimum delivery shown in diagram (cm3/15 sec.). [Note: Voltage at fuel pump with engine stationary and pump running is approx. 2 volts less than battery voltage.] [Note: As there is hardly any difference in the fuel delivery rate if only one of the two fuel pumps is working (because of the hose connections inside the tank), it is difficult to diagnose a defective pump by just measuring the delivery rate.]
  20. Unplug the electrical auxiliary lead at the fuel delivery units (one at a time).
  21. Measure delivery rate of fuel delivery unit located on the opposite side.
  22. Renew the relevant fuel delivery unit.
  23. Secure fuel line to engine 24.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
