Checking and adjusting position of convertible top on Audi: factory workshop procedure. Full factory text, tools and checks.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
With door windows open, determine dimension a between bottom edge of convertible top seal and top edge of window slot trim strip.
To do so, take measurement at joint between front and centre roof frame seal as shown.
Dimension a = 388 - 3 mm
If convertible top is below 385 mm:
Note:
If measured value is less than 385 mm, no other adjustments are to be made beforehand.
Remove convertible top => Page
61-5
.
Use commercially available spirit level to check whether front and rear packing plates at mounting bracket are on a level.
Note:
Take measurement with vehicle standing on a flat surface.
Equal height of mounting bracket can be achieved by way of a different number of packing plates at front and rear.
Height is only to be adjusted by adding/removing rear packing plates.
Install convertible top => Page
61-9
.
Tighten nuts and bolts slightly.
Insert marked packing plates for longitudinal adjustment of convertible top.
Slacken off nuts and bolts and push convertible top right up against bulkhead of convertible top compartment.
Check whether convertible top mounting bracket makes proper and even contact at all attachment points.
Have 2nd mechanic raise convertible top at centre roof frame seal -arrow- and hold in position shown.
Start by slightly tightening lower nuts and then upper bolts.
Note:
Tightening sequence must be observed, with second mechanic continuing to hold convertible top in same position.
Close convertible top.
If striker pins do not slide smoothly into locking element:
Adjust convertible top in longitudinal direction by adding/removing corresponding number of shims.
Close convertible top and check dimension a.
Dimension a = 388 - 3 mm
If measured value is inside tolerance:
Start by tightening lower nuts and then upper bolts to torque.
If dimension a is not attained:
Unfasten nuts and bolts at mounting bracket.
Have 2nd mechanic raise convertible top further at centre roof frame seal -arrow- (apply pressure) and hold in this position.
In doing so, mounting bracket is lifted off top edge of bulkhead of convertible top compartment
Start by tightening lower nuts and then upper bolts to torque.
Note:
Lifting tilts mounting bracket slightly and thus has a considerable influence on dimension a.
Once convertible top has been set to correct height:
Adjust door windows and rear side windows => Page
64-53
.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
