Checking air conditioner compressor shutoff: Audi TT Mk1 1.8 (BAM, BFV)

Step-by-step checking air conditioner compressor shutoff for the Audi TT Mk1 1.8 (BAM/BFV): 11 steps.

On the Audi TT with the BAM and BFV engines, platform code listed below, the air conditioning compressor is cut out by the engine control unit during hard acceleration, and this check confirms that happens. With the engine idling, the diagnostic tester reads display group 050 in the engine electronics, the air conditioning is set to full output on Auto so the compressor runs, and a brief stab of throttle should show the shutoff in the display zone. If it does not, the wiring between the control unit and the air conditioning circuit is tested with the adapter cable and test box, without the control unit plugged in. The key is reading the right field and keeping the engine at idle when starting.

11 steps 2 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

Connect the tester, open engine electronics, read measured value block 050 at idle and watch display zone 4. Switch the air conditioning off, then on with Auto at maximum so the compressor runs, and blip the throttle. If the shutoff does not show, connect the adapter cable to the harness only, check the listed wiring for open circuit and shorts, repair it and recheck the air conditioning.

Fits: Audi TT Mk1 (8N)

Don't miss

  • Engine must be idling when you open the engine electronics on the tester.
  • Make sure the compressor is actually running before the throttle burst.
  • Connect the test box to the harness only, not to the engine control unit.
  • Check each listed wire for open circuit and for shorts to earth and positive.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
