Bleeding brake system when brake fluid reservoir has been completely emptied — AUDI
Bleeding brake system when brake fluid reservoir has been completely emptied on Audi: 18 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A3 (8L, 1996–2003)
- Opens: brake fluid
- Special tools named: VAS 5234, V.A.G 1869
Don't miss
- The brake system must now be bled Brake system47.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ When using brake charge and bleed equipmentVAS 5234 to replenish the brake fluid, make sure that filling pressure does not exceed 1 bar.If the filling pressure exceeds 1 bar, a hydraulically controlled change-over valve for the EDL function prevents unrestricted flushing of the EDL-related parts of the hydraulic unit. Proper bleeding is then no longer ensured. For this reason the brake fluid pressure must be reduced to 1 bar on the brake charge and bleed equipment Operating Manual VAS 5234 or V.A.G 1869 AThe charge and bleeder unitV.A.G 1238/B is not suitable for bleeding the brake system by using the function "“04 - Basic setting”". — Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "“03 - Brake electronics”". When doing this the ignition must be switched on.
- Connect the brake charge and bleed equipmentVAS 5234 or V.A.G 1869 A.
- Open bleeder screws in prescribed sequence and pre-bleed brake calipers.
- Simultaneously bleed front left and front right brake calipers.
- Simultaneously bleed rear left and rear right brake calipers.
- With bleeder bottle hoses attached, leave bleeder screws open until brake fluid comes out without bubbles.
- From list (1), select function "“04 - Basic setting”".
- Use keypad (2) to enter "“001”" for "“display group number 001”" and confirm by pressing the Q key.
- Press pedal with substantial foot pressure and hold.
- Release pedal, open front bleeder screws.
- Switch to "“display group 002”" by pressing ↑ button.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Press pedal 10 times, close front bleeder screws.
- Switch to "“display group 003”" by pressing ↑ button.
- Repeat bleeding procedure as described above.
- Press the ↑ key each time to advance to the next display group until "“display group 017”" is reached.
- Terminate function "“04 - Basic setting”" by pressing the ← key.
- The brake system must now be bled Brake system47.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
