Allocation of main bearing shells for production date from 24.09.12 onwards
Note
It is very important to note the production date (stamped on crankshaft web). Determining production date
Chapter
Main bearing shells of the correct thickness are allocated to the cylinder block and crankshaft at the factory. Coloured dots are used to identify the thickness of the bearing shells.
If cylinder block or crankshaft is renewed, new bearing shells must be assigned to bearing caps.
Determine the correct colour coding for the bearing shells based on the letters on the cylinder block and on the crankshaft.
The first letter stands for crankshaft bearing 1, the second letter for crankshaft bearing 2, etc.
Letters on cylinder block:
Letters for allocation of bearing shells are stamped on sealing surface of sump.
Letters on crankshaft:
Letters for allocation of bearing shells are stamped on outer crankshaft web of first cylinder.
Note down letters and select colour coding to be fitted from the table.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
