3.0 TFSi_CMUA_Timing Chain — AUDI
3.0 TFSi_CMUA_Timing Chain on Audi: 216 steps, engines CAKA, CCBA, CGWC, CGXC. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Timing chain replacement on the Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 (CMUA, with CAKA, CCBA, CGWC, CGXC and CTUB covered), including S4 and S5 versions. It is a big job: the supercharger, starter, oil filter housing and oil cooler come off, the air-conditioning compressor is moved aside still connected and the oil is drained before the timing covers are opened. The engine has a valve gear drive chain, a camshaft chain each side and a balance shaft and oil pump chain, all with tensioners locked by pins. Mark parts and chain direction before removal, renew the chain, use new bolts where specified, and check that the blocking tools still fit after two crankshaft rotations before the fuel pressure and idle check.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the supercharger, starter, oil filter housing and oil cooler, set the compressor aside and drain the oil. Lock the camshafts and crankshaft, compress and pin each tensioner, and remove the camshaft chains, valve gear drive chain and balance shaft chain with rails and gearwheels. Refit with new chains and bolts, set the camshaft adjusters and balance shaft gearwheel, tighten in stages and remove the locking pins. Turn the crankshaft two rotations, recheck the timing, then refit covers and check fuel pressure.
Fits: platform codes 3.0, TFSI, |, S4, S5
- Opens: engine oil
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: locking pin
Don't miss
- Always renew the timing chain.
- Mark chain running direction and component positions before removal.
- Use new bolts where specified, including camshaft adjuster bolts.
- Counterhold with the special tool when tightening camshaft adjuster bolts.
- Turn the crankshaft two rotations and check the blocking tools still fit.
- Renew the sealing rings on reassembly.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
