12-cylinder engine (6.0 ltr. 4-valve), mechanics — Checking compression on Audi: 12 steps, engines BHT, BSB, BTE.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A8 D3 (4E, 2002–2010)
Don't miss
- Using the compression tester Operating instructions.
📋 Procedure
- Switch off ignition.
- Use screwdriver to pry off cover (right-side) at dash panel (arrow).
- Remove injector fuseSC29 at relay and fuse holder (right-side of dash panel, position (29)).
- Remove side sections of intake manifold: vehicles in rest-of-world Removing and installing left section of intake manifold or Removing and installing right section of intake manifold; USA vehicles Removing and installing left section of intake manifold or Removing and installing right section of intake manifold.
- Unplug electrical connectors (1) on ignition coils (2).
- Disconnect the ignition coils from the spark plugs using puller T10166.
- Remove spark plugs with spark plug socket 3122 B.
- Test the compression pressure with the compression tester V.A.G 1763. [Note: Using the compression tester Operating instructions.]
- Have a 2nd mechanic press down the accelerator pedal completely and simultaneously operate the starter until the pressure no longer increases on the tester display.
- Install spark plugs and ignition coils (repair group 28).
- Install side sections of intake manifold: vehicles in rest-of-world Removing and installing left section of intake manifold or Removing and installing right section of intake manifold; USA vehicles Removing and installing left section of intake manifold or Removing and installing right section of intake manifold.
- Finally, interrogate and erase event memory of engine control unit as entries are stored when fuse is removed and connectors are unplugged (see the separate procedure).

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
