U0182 — Lost communication with front lighting control module

I got fault code U0182. What does it mean?

The vehicle's main computer has stopped receiving signals from the front lighting control module. This usually happens because of wiring issues, a faulty module, or network communication problems. The car's lighting system may not work properly until the connection is restored, but the vehicle can often still be driven safely.

What causes U0182?

Common causes

The cause is almost always one of a few things. Here they are — U0182 rarely comes from anything outside this list:

  • Damaged or loose wiring/connectors to lighting control module
  • Faulty front lighting control module
  • Corroded or dirty electrical connections
  • Network communication fault in vehicle's CAN bus
  • Blown fuse related to lighting module power
How do I fix U0182 — where should I start?

Where to start

In the order a sensible mechanic would work — the cheap checks first, the expensive replacements only after:

  1. Inspect and secure wiring and connectors at lighting module
  2. Check and replace any blown fuses related to lighting
  3. Clean corroded connectors and terminals
  4. Test network communication lines for faults
  5. Replace lighting control module if all else fails
And on my car specifically?

That is what holds for U0182 in general. From here it depends on your engine — tell me which car it is and what it does, and I will give you the steps for it: real procedures, torque figures and diagrams instead of general advice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

The same code can mean different things on different makes. Match the meaning to your make before acting on it.
