U0006 — Communication problem on vehicle's main data bus
The vehicle's high-speed CAN bus has a wiring issue causing loss of communication between control modules. This happens when the negative side of the CAN bus circuit is open or disconnected, preventing proper data exchange. It can cause various systems to malfunction or show warning lights because the modules can't 'talk' to each other.
Common causes
The cause is almost always one of a few things. Here they are — U0006 rarely comes from anything outside this list:
- Damaged or corroded CAN bus wiring or connectors
- Loose or disconnected wiring at control modules
- Faulty control module with internal CAN driver failure
- Aftermarket electronics interfering with CAN signals
Where to start
In the order a sensible mechanic would work — the cheap checks first, the expensive replacements only after:
- Inspect and clean CAN bus connectors and wiring
- Check for loose or damaged wiring and repair
- Test control modules for proper CAN communication
- Replace faulty wiring or connectors if needed
- Replace defective control module as last resort
That is what holds for U0006 in general. From here it depends on your engine — tell me which car it is and what it does, and I will give you the steps for it: real procedures, torque figures and diagrams instead of general advice.

Code breakdown
Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
The same code can mean different things on different makes. Match the meaning to your make before acting on it.
