P0680 — Glow plug circuit problem on cylinder 10

I got fault code P0680. What does it mean?

The engine's control module detected a problem with the glow plug circuit on cylinder 10. Glow plugs help start diesel engines by heating the air in the cylinder. This code appears when the circuit is open, shorted, or the glow plug itself is faulty, causing starting or running issues especially in cold conditions.

What causes P0680?

Common causes

The cause is almost always one of a few things. Here they are — P0680 rarely comes from anything outside this list:

  • Faulty glow plug on cylinder 10
  • Damaged wiring or connector in glow plug circuit
  • Blown fuse or relay for glow plugs
  • Faulty glow plug control module
How do I fix P0680 — where should I start?

Where to start

In the order a sensible mechanic would work — the cheap checks first, the expensive replacements only after:

  1. Check and replace blown fuses or relays
  2. Inspect and repair damaged wiring/connectors
  3. Test and replace faulty glow plug on cylinder 10
  4. Check glow plug control module if problem persists
And on my car specifically?

That is what holds for P0680 in general. From here it depends on your engine — tell me which car it is and what it does, and I will give you the steps for it: real procedures, torque figures and diagrams instead of general advice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

The same code can mean different things on different makes. Match the meaning to your make before acting on it.
