P0134 — Oxygen sensor not sending signal to engine computer

I got fault code P0134. What does it mean?

The engine's computer is not receiving any signal from the oxygen sensor located before the catalytic converter on bank 1. This sensor monitors exhaust gases to help adjust fuel mixture for efficient combustion. The code appears because the sensor circuit shows no activity, which can cause poor fuel economy and increased emissions.

What causes P0134?

Common causes

The cause is almost always one of a few things. Here they are — P0134 rarely comes from anything outside this list:

  • Faulty oxygen sensor
  • Damaged or disconnected sensor wiring
  • Blown fuse or relay related to sensor circuit
  • Exhaust leaks near the sensor
  • Engine control module (ECM) fault (rare)
How do I fix P0134 — where should I start?

Where to start

In the order a sensible mechanic would work — the cheap checks first, the expensive replacements only after:

  1. Inspect and repair wiring and connectors
  2. Check and replace blown fuses or relays
  3. Test sensor output with diagnostic tools
  4. Replace oxygen sensor if faulty
  5. Inspect ECM if all else fails
And on my car specifically?

That is what holds for P0134 in general. From here it depends on your engine — tell me which car it is and what it does, and I will give you the steps for it: real procedures, torque figures and diagrams instead of general advice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

The same code can mean different things on different makes. Match the meaning to your make before acting on it.
